Jagmeet Singh won a historic victory Thursday night, becoming the first provincial New Democrat to be elected in the Peel region west of Toronto.

Singh, a young lawyer, speaks three languages and ran an impressive youth-driven campaign in the Bramalea-Gore-Malton riding. He was one of 17 NDP candidates elected in Thursday night's vote.

The provincial NDP recruited Singh after he lost his bid for a federal seat in May by only 539 votes.

After Singh prevailed over Liberal incumbent Kuldip Kular by about 2,100 votes, he received a hero's welcome by some 300 people who were packed into Bombay Palace, a banquet hall near Dixie Road and Highway 407.

Watch the above video to see (and hear) his supporters blow the roof off the place.
